Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies
The rules limiting guest numbers for indoor gatherings during the pandemic meant that many couples opted for outdoor weddings when this had not been their original vision for their ceremony. As a result, an increasing number of couples who are now planning their weddings have seen the amazing potential of outdoor weddings and, accordingly, are looking at holding their ceremony outside. Indeed, according to a recent article from Hitched, outdoor weddings are set to be big in 2024.
It's true that the weather in the UK can be unpredictable and there is always a chance of rain, even in the height of summer. In some cultures, rain on your wedding day is a sign of a long lasting marriage, as a wet knot is one that is harder to untie. Others believe that rain on your wedding day symbolises the cleansing of sadness or difficult times, providing a fresh and positive start to married life. Even if you don’t subscribe to these beliefs, a strategically placed gazebo or a big umbrella (or two) can prevent the rain washing out your big day, so if an outdoor ceremony appeals, go for it!
Outdoor weddings offer so much scope for personalisation and there are endless possibilities to make the look and feel as intimate as an indoor wedding through the set up and decor. For beach weddings, you can get married barefoot in the waves or in the shade of the trees; it can be as formal or as informal as you wish. The unique wedding of your dreams is possible; there are so many ways you can make your outdoor wedding special – including bringing in symbolic elements from nature or inviting your favourite animals to be a part of your ceremony - whether this is your pet dog or a friendly alpaca is up to you!
